Cordial Cup is Europe's biggest and most spectacular youth football tournament

The Cordial Cup press conference was held recently in Biohotel Stanglwirt, where football, especially thanks to our dear friend Franz Beckenbauer, has always played a key role. Head organiser Hans Grübler was able to confirm to the many journalists that the depth in the top teams has never been so great for the 14th edition, which is set to run from 10th – 13th June. In actual fact the figures speak for themselves: 156 teams from 16 nations have registered for Europe's biggest youth tournament, among them 30 top clubs whose first teams play in the premier league of their respective country. That is more than 2500 footballing boys and girls along with 700 trainers and supervisors. Around 6000 visitors and fans are expected every match day.

Josef Margreiter, Director of Tirol Werbung, also had only words or praise for the Cordial Cup: 'I am absolutely delighted that this tournament is now in its 14th year. The Junior Soccer League is right up there in the European league!'.

Werner Kern admits that he has been a real Cordial Cup fan for many years. The manager of youth football in Bavaria and spotter of numerous footballing greats explains why FC Bayern has always opted to play the Cordial Cup among the many tournament invitations they receive: 'To have such a superb tournament right on your doorstep is a privilege for us. At the Cordial Cup youth players can get together at an international level, see how they measure up and forge friendships. This is key for personal and sporting development.'
Kitzbühel man Manuel Schmid, Bundesliga player with FC Kapfenberg is especially delighted at the opportunity that the Cordial Cup provides local youth players: 'In a region where a talent scout might otherwise never stray because they might think that it is only the domain of skiers and cross-country skiers, local youth players are given the opportunity to play their way into the limelight.'

In the past few weeks and months there has been 32 qualifying tournaments in 6 different countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, France) with 542 teams taking part – that's around 100 teams more than last year - and preparations are now at a crucial stage. By the time the final is played in Going at the Wilder Kaiser on Whit Sunday, more than 10,000 children will have been involved in the Cordial Cup 2011.

The Stanglwirt has been delighted to support the Cordial Cup for many years and can hardly wait to welcome up-and- coming pro players! We all wish everyone the very best of luck for the big tournament in June! The Hauser family and the entire Stanglwirt team.
