Our Lippizaner breeding has another jewel in its crown since July 2011: Rodesia the foal continues the lineage of the million-dollar stallion Pluto Verona, with whom Austria's first private Lippizaner breeding was founded. The famous and popular Hollywood actress Ashley Judd spontaneously and with great delight declared herself ready to be Rodesia's godmother.
In the beginning of July, under the supervision of a vet, stud farm manager Anna Widder and Stanglwirt Balthasar Hauser, the Lippizaner foal Rodesia came into the world. With her dark brown coat and awkward manner, there is not yet much to remind us of the elegance of the noble Lippizaners. It's only the white forehead that indicates the lineage of the eagerly anticipated offspring. Rodesia, foal of the mare Roulette, is the great-grandchild of the million-dollar stallion Pluto Verona, who created the success story of our Lippizaner breeding. Today there are no less than32 horses here at Stanglwirt, including 22 home-bred Lippizaners.
Recently, the famous Hollywood actress Ashley Judd spent her holidays here with us at the Stanglwirt and turned out to be an avid rider and a person with a big heart for animals. Without hesitation she declared herself ready to become godmother of our foul Rodesia. In wonderful sunshine and against the enchanting backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser, the very moving christening ceremony form Rodesia was held. Ashley and Rodesia became bosom buddies from day one, and henceforth Ashley visited our youngest stable dweller several times a day.
That there are no coincidences in life was proven when Ashley told us that her charity organisation puts special emphasis on supporting the region of Rhodesia (today's Republic of Zimbabwe in the south of Africa). It was, however, already certain that our foul would be called "Rodesia" even before Ashley spontaneously declared herself ready to be godmother.
Our Rodesia is thus not just the little protégé of Ashley, but is also certain to become a special good luck charm for Ashley's exemplary commitment to the region of Rhodesia.
