The traditional Autumn singer gathering at the Stanglwirt was again a meeting place for authenticity and cosiness this year
The singer gathering at the Stanglwirt has long been a musical meeting in the truest sense of the word. The best singers and musicians from the world of authentic folk music across the entire Alpine region combined with the age-old hospitality of the Hauser family made the evening in the century-old guesthouse a truly atmospheric experience and a social gathering for fans of genuine unadulterated folk music.
The original pleasures of music
The musical Stanglwirt family are particularly passionate about the singer gathering which took place for the 122nd time on 6 November 2010 in the traditional lounge of the Gasthof Stangl in a relaxed and lively ambience, with the pure aim of singing and enjoying music. Magdalena and Balthasar Hauser and their children greeted the musicians and music enthusiasts alike with a warm reception, as ever!
The 122nd singer gathering on 6 November was yet again a special and unforgettable evening with authentic hospitality. The hosts displayed a visible enthusiasm for folk music and there were impressive performances by the singers and musicians. “The singer gatherings have always been a means of meeting up with good friends and singing colleagues. We come together on these evenings to play music and sing within a cosy setting. It is the pleasure of music which counts,” say the Stanglwirt family, emphasising the importance of these evenings for the Stanglwirt. They have always been one of the most important cultural highlights of this traditional hotel and the younger Stanglwirt generation is equally dedicated and committed to them: “The singer gathering was founded by our grandparents and our parents met at a singer gathering. So we have the gatherings to thank for our very existence!” says Maria Hauser, smiling. “It is of course a great honour and pleasure for us kids to play music with our parents and to continue the singer gatherings as our forefathers intended. It’s great that so many talented young singers and musicians come to our gatherings and derive so much pleasure from authentic folk music”. And so the future of the Stanglwirt singer gatherings is secure and the next Spring gathering to be held on 30 April 2011 is already being anticipated with excitement.
The best from the Alpine region
Last Saturday, there was singing and playing in the traditional lounges by duo Biwi Rehm-Klaus Altmann, the Strobler Poscha, the string trio Kobenzer Streich, the Wienerwald Viergesang, the Ottensheimer Dreigesang, the Heidi Preisegger Quartett, the Engiadina Jodel-Terzett, the Tiroler Tanzmusikanten and many other greats from the world of folk music, under the musical direction of Andrä Feller. The popular ORF presenter Philip Meikl led the evening in his usual charming manner.
A singer gathering with tradition
The singer gathering at the Stanglwirt is unique in every way: it was founded by Stanglwirt landlady Anna Hauser and her partner Alois Hofer and singers and musicians from Austria and abroad have been gathering at the historic Gasthof Stangl in Going since 1949 to celebrate genuine folk music. For many locals, the singer gathering is a compulsory date in the calendar and this time there were again lots of guests from Going and Tyrol in attendance.
