Award for the best ski resort
The Kitzbühel Alps ski association has been awarded the Top-of-the-Mountains Award for being the ‘Best Ski Resort of 2010’.
The jury of 11 at the Top-of-the-Mountains club gives out numerous awards each year to regions, resorts, mountain railways and huts in the Alps. The most important prize, the award for the best ski resort, went to the Kitzbühel Alps ski region in 2010. As such, the Kitzbühel Alps join a list of renowned names such as Sölden, Ischgl and Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.
Quality offensive at the lifts
The jury based their decision on two main aspects. The quality strategy of the 7 mountain railways covered by the Kitzbühel Alps AllStarCard was described as exemplary. There has also been a great deal of financial investment over the last few years into introducing ultra-modern lifts here, primarily the 6 and 8-seater cable cars which transport guests comfortably up to the starting point for the various beautiful descents. Several new cable cars also offer a fast and comfortable climb up to the ski areas of the Kitzbühel Alps, without long waiting times.
Guaranteed snow – there has also been a great deal of investment in improving snow quality and snow cover options (in the form of snow machines) in addition to improvements in the lift and piste areas over the last few years. The latest snow-making facilities can transform ¾ of the kilometres of pistes into magnificent ski pistes in just a few days.
As a result, the ski season extends from the start of December to mid-April. The integration of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski resort into the skiing association in 2008 has meant that the skiing season in the Kitzbühel Alps now lasts even longer.
