For more than twenty years Austrian ski aces and their training teams have been coming here to us in the Stanglwirt to get in shape for their forthcoming season.
The off-season has finally come to an end - in time-honoured fashion the Austrian Ski Federation Men's Alpine team set up their spring training camp here with us in the Stanglwirt. Along with Romed Baumann, Mario Scheiber, Georg Streitberger, Klaus Kröll, Ottmar Striedlinger, Max Franz, Manuel Kramer and Joachim Puchner, from 30th May to 3rd June 2011 Hans Grugger was also back at the Streif again for the first time after his horror crash on 20th January 2011. Training in the Stanglwirt was the first test for the man from Gastein.
Ideal training conditions & working the hay with Balthasar Hauser
In the Stanglwirt aces from the Austrian Ski Federation find the tranquillity and seclusion they need for optimum preparations for the season. For Hans Grugger, individual training sessions in particular are on the agenda to help him get fit again after his serious injury, while the others will work hard together during power and fitness sessions. Cycling and tennis matches will provide a bit of diversity. The supervisors waxed lyrical about the opportunities in the Stanglwirt: 'If training weren't so hard, you would almost think we were on holiday“, joked head trainer Andreas Evers. And so it didn't look like the ski stars were on holiday, host Balthasar Hauser personally took a training session and invited them to work some hay at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser.
Wladimir Klitschko gets fit for Haye
It is not just Austrian skiers who hold the Stanglwirt in high regard as the ideal place to prepare for competition, lots of other top-class athletes do too. Boxing world champion Wladimir Klitschko trained here with us in the Stanglwirt for his fight against David Haye on 2nd July in Hamburg.
