That was our 23rd Weisswurstparty

Hearty and frisky! In accordance with tradition, on the Friday night of the Hahnenkamm Races we celebrated the legendary Weisswurst party here at the Stanglwirt together with 2000 friends of the establishment, regular patrons, skiing legends, countless VIP guests and the cult band Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung.

With a cry of “Weiß Wurscht is!” (‘cause it doesn’t matter) and the peal of the Stanglwirt bell at least 400 years old, the Stanglwirt host Balthasar Hauser rang in the 23rd Weisswurst party. The Stanglwirt’s husband and wife Balthasar and Magdalena celebrated the official ceremony – the 'Anzuzeln' (sausage guzzling) – in company with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Andreas Gabalier, Karl Schranz, Stephan Eberharter, Fritz Strobl, Gerry Friedle, Alfons Schuhbeck, Weisswurst high priest Toni Holnburger and the organiser of the Weisswurst party Maria Hauser. The ‘Governator’ didn’t pass up his chance to give an emotional welcome speech. “I’m delighted that I may be here with you – in the best hotel in Austria”, Schwarzenegger gushed. “I just feel so at home here.”

Andreas Gabalier helped tuck into the 8000 champagne and chilli Weisswursts all told with relish. 2000 guests kept the revelry going into the wee hours of the morning. The performance of the legendary Austrian cult band EAV was met with particularly wild acclaim, as they got the party started at the Lipizzan Riding Arena with hits like ‘Küss die Hand, schöne Frau’ (kiss the hand, pretty lady), ‘An der Copacabana’ (at the Copacabana) and ‘Ding Dong’. With the dress code ‘Tracht’ (traditional costume) and both Tyrolean and Bavarian culinary treats, the 23rd Weisswurst party lived up to its title once again as the ‘Most Rustic Hut High Jinks in Kitzbühel’.
Party with VIP Guests
Arnold Schwarzenegger came with Ralf Möller, and together they partook of thick Weisswursts along with thick cigars. Uschi Glas and Werner Baldessarini both enjoyed their fill of Weisswursts, as did Wolfgang Fierek, Fritz Wepper and his daughter Sophie, Mark Keller, Norbert Dobeleit, Maximilian Brückner and Eva Habermann. Monica Ivancan and Franziska Knuppe and Sven Hannawald with his Alena Gerber all danced like there was no tomorrow. And Marie Amière, Tina Ruland, and the stars of folk music Marianne und Michael Hartl also seemed to be in high spirits. Verona Pooth was radiant as she posed in front of the Weisswurst pot and gave interviews with the sunniest disposition. And just in time for EAV’s performance led by frontman Klaus Eberhartinger, the party company was joined by Felix Baumgartner and Tobias Moretti.

Politicians of Prominence and Skiing Legends
Alongside the Tyrolean governor Günther Platter, the US ambassador Alexa Wesner and former US ambassador Helene von Damm both honoured us. And on top of that, a host of skiing legends again joined the celebrations with Balthasar Hauser in the Legends Lounge, among them Franz Klammer, Hias Leitner, Michael Veith, Stephan Eberharter, Fritz Strobl, Karl Schranz, Marc Girardelli and Armin Assinger.

That hearty sound and that hut feeling
It wasn’t just the Austropop fossils of the EAV who made for a merry atmosphere: the legendary Oktoberfest band Sumpfkröten and the Bavarian a cappella newcomer voXXclub were also there to get the guests really fired up. The evening was hosted for the first time by the popstar Marc Pircher, who delighted us with a medley of his best country hits.
