St. Angler-wirt: Angling at the Stanglwirt

For fishing fans, the Stanglwirt becomes the St. Angler-wirt. The fast-flowing mountain stream, nearly 14 km long, which rises in the Kaisergebirge range and crosses our land with no tributaries, features numerous flat or shallow places where the fish love to linger.

So anyone who wants to have not only a wonderful outdoor experience at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser, but also the opportunity to make a fine catch in private fishing grounds, will strike lucky at the Stanglwirt.

Just for fun

Catch and release

From May to September you can fish every day from 5 a.m.to 10 p.m. for river and rainbow trout, char, grayling, indigenous Tyrolean trout and Danube salmon. To maintain the environmental balance in our fishing grounds for the long-term, all fishing is on a "catch and release" basis and barbless hooks must be used. By the way, please note the closed seasons for fishing which must be observed: grayling (1 Jan - 15 May), river trout (1 Oct - 28 Feb), river char (1 Oct - 31 Mar).

St. Angler-wirt

The vast area is reserved exclusively for Stanglwirt anglers and is crossed by a lovely mountain stream about 14 km long, where the fish find numerous flat or shallow places to linger.

    Tips from a pro

Johannes Hauser, junior director at Stanglwirt and a passionate angler, will be happy to share his "secret tips" about the diverse environment. The Hauser family are devoted to ensuring that nature continues to flourish, and flora and fauna continue to thrive.

Equipment recommended by Johannes Hauser includes...

    • a fly rod between 240 and 270 centimetres long, with a line weight of between 4 and 6, and
    • various gold bead nymphs and dry flies (deer hair or CDC).
    • Kit should also include chest waders or wading boots.

Depending on the weather, we also recommend warm underwear, a raincoat, a cap or hat and sunglasses.

    Tip

We operate a "catch and release" policy in our waters and request that you use barbless hooks!
