Energy from Tyrol – Natural and Innovative
For centuries, the Stanglwirt has stood for lived sustainability. With the launch of its new BIO-Energy power plant, this philosophy continues – now at a completely new technological level. As the world’s first wood gasification plant of its kind in a hotel, it produces electricity and heat in a closed-loop system – resource-efficient and low in emissions.

Combined Heat and Power – High-Tech Made in Tyrol
At the heart of the system is state-of-the-art wood gasification technology from SynCraft. Regional, PEFC RED II certified wood chips and damaged timber are transformed into wood gas and then converted into energy via an Innio Jenbacher gas engine. The generated heat is used directly within the hotel operations and also serves to dry the fuel – creating a perfectly efficient and sustainable energy cycle.

Climate-Positive Through Biochar
During the energy production process, biochar is created – a natural carbon sink. Not only does it improve soil quality, but it also permanently stores around 20% of the CO₂ contained in the wood. In this way, the power plant actively contributes to carbon reduction and sets a powerful example of climate-positive operations.

Regionally Rooted – With Responsibility and Vision
The sustainable wood chips and damaged wood come exclusively from the surrounding region. Short transport routes, modern storage logistics and close cooperation with Tyrolean technology partners such as SynCraft and Innio Jenbacher make this project a true showcase of regional circular economy and innovation.
